Hildbrandt .444 Marlin
The .444 Marlin is one of the more popular machines from Hildbrandt Tattoo Supply. It comes standard with our 2008 and later kits. It was featured in a Czechoslovakian tattoo magazine in February of 2008. Factory setup The twin frame of the .444 Marlin is the .38 Calibre. Factory setup as a 10 wrap slower shader, better suited for accuracy. 10 wrap coils, 33mm height, 22uf capacitor, 50WV. Weight is 230 grams/8 ounces. Product code: 7SW
Counterfeit Hildbrandt Machines: There are suppliers selling fake Hildbrandt machines, most of them from China. You can identify them by their thinner frames and lack of a model designation on the frame base. Only Hildbrandt machines come with a codified production series number. If you think you may have purchased a counterfeit Hildbrandt, email us with the productions series number and we’ll be able to tell you if its real or not.

Is it pre-tuned?
newton –
They are setup with the proper springs and wrap coils for liner or shader. They are put in a general setup, however everyone tunes their machines differently so it may not be the end all be all setup.

Just bought this machine few days ago. Finally came home. Can I run it as a color packer?? What’s the recommended voltage for it??? Was running it as a shader (bigger gap between contact screw and spring) at 10 volts aprox. Is that too much? Sorry I’m new in the tattoo area and no I don’t have a aprenticeship since its almost impossible to get one in this city so I’m on my own. Any hel would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You will probably want to switch out the front spring to a shorter one for color packing and perhaps investing in a thicker/heavier armature bar. The back spring is fairly long for the .444 Marlin already so you won’t need to change that. 10 volts does not seem too high. For more questions, I suggest emailing us, we don’t check the comments that much.

Ok, thank you very much. Any more questions i will use email option from now on.

Which hildy’s machine is best for setting up as a color packer.
Frank Nelson –
Sorry I meant as far as frame geometry. I bought the .44 mag n its ok but im really tryin to find a solid hildys mmachine cause of the price. I love the .44. Best machine i have.

I recently added this machine to my collection. It seems ok but I noticed that the capacitor is a 22uf on mine, and a 47uf in the pictures here. Mine also runs more like a liner. Was there some kind of mistake?
newton –
No, there was a design change in 2013 to change all capacitors to 22uf. This was a decision by the design team and it was meant to improve the overall performance in conjunction with the coils.
Ike –
Just ordered this and it is a nice looking machine. However, it was set up with the wrong capacitor a 22u used for lining. The research I have done, and even the picture here has a 47u capacitor. Was mine a mistake? I ordered the .444 because you said it was a softer hitting shader. Please advise or replace.
Thanks

Hello there, we have since changed all of our capacitors to 22uf rather than the 47uf. This was a part of the design changes to Hildbrandt’s in 2013.

I love this machine I use this machine as a soft shader and the 38 caliber as my color packer as i runs a bit faster with the 8 wraps I wish you had an option to customize these machines I would have preferred the 47uf on this and the 38 for a slightly slower hit but all in all i will definately attempt to collect one of each of your machines right after I obtain my time machines Thanks Hildebrandt for offering such great machines at an affordable price

Can you set this machine up as a liner?
Nancy L. –
Hello,
Thank you for your inquiry. To change this machine from a Shader to a Liner you simply need to change the spring and the coil. We do sell those parts separately if you are interested in changing it from a Shader to a Liner.
Thank you
Nancy

.444 Marlin really is a unique machine. It packs solid black and colour really well for my technique, tuned at 8.5 to 9.0 Volts. 8.0 Volts is a good place to start.I have NeoTat rotary machines for fine lining and shading/packing, but I’ve recently been favouring the .444 and the .38 for that stuff. Even though customers hate the noise…these machines can be run faster to get the job done quicker. For me anyway. Also, I use the .444 for Lining 5 RL all the time! I don’t use it to line with larger needles obviously. I generally work with traditional fat lines, so my liners hit hard and aren’t good for smaller needles. And I hate rotary machine for lining. It really works well for small group liner needles even though it’s a shader. It’s really diverse and doesn’t seem to skit a beat. Good balance and lightweight. Soooo cheap, really high quality. Only thing: know your machine. These machines have a unique tone that is difficult to get used to for tuning. And they generally hit really hard.
